The development
After the covering, the gestation lasts about 65 days. The newborn ragdoll babies are completly white, they weigh between 2.85 and 4.60oz (and up sometimes) and there is often 3 at 6 babies a litter.
From the birth, the babies crawl and get nearer of their mummy for suck and stay in the warm. Their mum lick them for a long time in order to stimulate their breathing. The first nursings are very important because in this way the kittens take the necessary colostrum. That will protect them from the present germs inevitably in their environment. And then, little by little the milk replaces the colostrum.
The temperature is important at this age too, the newborn kitten don't know regulate his temperature, he must stay near his mom almost continuously for keep a good warmly and the room musn't be cold !
The kitten at birth is blind and deaf but his sense of smell is very good, so this allows him to move to his mother. the sens of hearing of the kitten begins from the 5th day and develops little by little. The babies sleep at this moment 95% of the time ! At 1 week, each kitten must double his birth weight.
The kitten starts to open the eyes between about 8 and 15 days and the coloring appears more and more, particulary in the seals of course ! The first teeth appear at this age already !
Between 2 and 3 weeks the kittens starts to walk, they are still very clumsy, but so cute. At this age, it's very important to handle them each day for the socialization. Their coloring continues extending, we see better and better the colors and patterns.
From 3 weeks, the kittens become curious about everything and they want discover their environment. They move away from the cosy little nest, so it's need there is no danger nearby ! The mother has a very important role, at the smallest call from a kitten, ( the sassy baby walked 3 short steps out of the nest...and he was scared !) mom comes immediatly for check if all is ok !
There is not an other mom more attentive than the female cat. It's also the mother who learn the absolute limits that the kittens must not overstep in their play. If the mother doesn't do that, the kitten would have the tendency to scratch and/or bite without self-control, even playing ! for that, the mother finds always the way calming and at the last resort, she stops him firmly ! There is nothing to worry about that, on the contrary, she is doing her work perfectly !
Until 4 weeks, it's mom who takes care of cleaning the kittens and stimulate their removal function. From about a month, the kitten became interested in feeding his mother, and at this moment as he discovers the litter box and its function. He learns very quickly to use it because he mimics mom, but before that, he can not avoid tasting ! At 1 month, the kitten must have quadruple his birth weight, then about 1.10 pounds.
À 6 semaines, les chatons mangent déjà une bonne quantité de nourriture semblable à leur maman, mais ils tètent toujours, et c'est toujours un grand plaisir pour eux de se retrouver ensemble et de se faire chouchouter par leur maman. C'est aussi un grand moment pour nous humains... un vrai concert de ronronnements !
Quand les chatons arrivent à l'âge de 2 mois et environ 1 kg, ils ont une vivacité, une élégance et un charme fou ! De vrais adultes en miniature avec en plus une envie de jouer avec tout et n'importe quoi. Regardez jouer un chaton, aucune mauvaise humeur n'y résiste !
Entre 2 et 3 mois, les chatons s'alimentent de plus en plus seuls et ne tètent presque plus ou alors par plaisir si maman veut bien ! Leur couleur est de plus en plus visible; le marquage des bicolores et des mitted est de mieux en mieux définis.
